The purpose of this book is to more thoroughly explore details concerning the arms and armor from the Khanates in Central Asia which have typically not been sufficiently covered in other references. Here we will examine examples of the arms from both museums and private collections from the territories of the Khiva and Kokand Khanates and the Emirate of Bukhara from the 18th into the 20th centuries. The military traditions of the people of these regions and the development of their armies will also be discussed. This is well shown with lithographs, miniatures and period photographs of these people with these arms and armor, many of which are published for the first time. While this book is intended for collectors and historians who specialize in the study of oriental arms and armor, it will certainly be of interest to a wide range of readers becoming familiar with these fascinating fields of study. The first volume examines polearm and long-bladed arms in detail.
