The volume comprises unpublished and forgotten works of academician Evgenij Viktorovich Tarle (1874—1955), one of the most prominent Russian historians of the XX-th century. The works included in the volume cover half a century period, starting from 1900-ies and are devoted to the history of West Europe and Russia. Among them, there are some brilliant works that are still of great scientific significance: Catherine II and her diplomacy, Three catastrophes, Britain and Turkey, M. A. Bakunin, essays devoted to Russian and foreign historians. Besides, the volume presents newspaper articles written in 1917, memoirs, speeches, i. e. the ones made during theses defenses. The publication is partly based on original archival texts, whereas other materials have been found in and extracted from old newspapers and journals. The volume also includes E. L. Lann's memoir of E. Tarle's life. The book aims at historians as well as general readership keen on history.

В книге собраны неопубликованные и забытые работы одного из крупнейших историков XX в. академика Евгения Викторовича Тарле (1874—1955). Вошедшие в нее тексты — они посвящены истории Западной Европы и России нового времени — писались на протяжении полувека, с начала 1900-х гг.
